La Manga del Mal Menor in Spain is a tourist town located in Murcia, and is divided into various districts: Cartagena, San Pedro de Pinatar, Los Alcazares, and San Javier. There are 24 km of salt lake that surround the area, called the Mar Menor (Minor Sea).

The salt lake called the Mar Menor was formed with sediments left from marine currents running from Cabo de Palos to the north. The Mr Menor connects with the Mediterranean Sea through two waterways. This area is quite young, and was formed around the 17th Century when two islands that were very close together were united with the currents of the sea, which dragged and accumulated salt sediments there, making it one of the saltiest sea in Europe. The division between the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor is 24 km long and between 2 km and 100 metres wide.

Since the 1960´s, La Manga has had a dune-like landscape, but now with urban sprawl and construction of tourist infrastructures, the face of the land has changed, converting into a desireable touris attraction of sun, sea, golf, and all kinds of services offered for a relaxing vacation in Spain.

La Manga is between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea, and because of this, the area has a microclimate, giving it a mild Mediterranean climate which thousands of tourists enjoy every year. The towns of San Pedro de Pinatar, CArtagena, San Javier and Los Alcazares all are located on the Mar Menor.
